Zimmerman’s two goals lead Pirates past Patriots

BANGOR – Andy Zimmerman scored the game-tying goal in regulation and the game-winner in the extra session as Piscataquis Community High School prevailed 3-2 in overtime over Bangor Christian in a boys soccer game Thursday.

Jarrod Robinson also scored for the 5-4 Pirates of Guilford. Ryan Martell had seven saves on 20 shots.

Josh Griffin and Zach Kutz scored off Eric Sobey passes for the 6-2-1 Patriots. Aaron Wilson saved five of 13 shots.

JV: Piscataquis 1-0

Penquis 3, Schenck 1

At Milo, Nathan Allen scored two goals, both assisted by his brother Jordan Allen, to pace the Patriots.

Jordan Allen contributed a goal of his own, and Drew Hamlin made 15 saves on 21 shots for 3-6 Penquis.

Will Hamlin scored for the 3-5-1 Wolverines of East Millinocket. Jordan Pelkey stopped six of 11 shots.

John Bapst 1, Foxcroft 1 (2OT)

At Bangor, Foxcroft’s Don Shin scored unassisted with 8:35 left to tie it up after Nick Hubbard had scored unassisted for the Crusaders in the first half.

Chris Smith made 10 saves on 11 shots for 3-5 John Bapst, and James Tirrell finished with 11 saves on 14 shots for 5-3-1 Foxcroft.

Hermon 1, Brewer 0

At Hermon, Anthony Rowe scored after a scramble in front with 1:25 left.

Hermon’s Joey Carmichael sent a long ball from midfield to inside the 18 and teammate Ryan Tarr leaped to head the ball, drawing out Brewer goalie Ben Davis. Neither player could control the ball and Rowe gathered it in and scored.

Corey Stanhope made five saves on five shots for 5-4 Hermon. For 3-6 Brewer, Davis finished with 12 saves on 13 shots.

JV: Brewer 3-0

Orono 2, Old Town 2 (2OT)

At Orono, Tony Raymond scored a goal and assisted on another by Marc Schmid as the Red Riots tied the Indians.

Dan Ohno assisted on Raymond’s goal for 1-5-2 Orono. Mat Lint had five saves on seven shots.

Chris St. Louis and David Chilelli each scored for 2-6-2 Old Town. Dustin Murphy rejected five out of seven shots.

JV: Orono 5-0

Dexter 3, Penobscot Valley 1

At Dexter, brothers Brandon, Aaron, and Ethan Woodman combined for two goals and two assists to help the 4-4-1 Tigers.

Brandon and Aaron Woodman each had a goal and Ethan had two assists. Rick Stewart had the other goal, and Sam Bowers made seven saves on 13 shots.

Matt Cummings scored for the 3-5-1 Howlers of Howland, and Josh Ireland made 14 saves on 30 shots.

Bangor 5, Nokomis 0

At Bangor, Dylan George tallied two goals and JoJo Hwalek had two assists as the Rams rolled.

Dan Malmer, Cam Cormier, and Adam Towne added a goal apiece for 9-1 Bangor. Aaron Taft and Jassefa Murphy made one save on two shots.

Brendan Donaldson stopped 31 out of 42 shots for 0-9 Nokomis of Newport.

JV: Bangor 1-0

Lee 6, Katahdin 0

At Lee, Rick Kim scored four goals to lead the Pandas past the Cougars.

Peter Pickering and Tom Bird each added a goal and an assist for the 8-1 winners. Kris King and Cameron Hamilton combined for seven saves on 10 shots.

For 4-5-2 Katahdin of Stacyville, Burton Brayall made 17 saves on 25 shots.

Girls soccer

Bangor 8, Nokomis 1

At Newport, Serena DuBois had two goals and an assist as the Rams rolled.

Jenny Lucy had two goals for 4-4 Bangor, while Erin MacDermott and Erin Porter each had one. Hannah Bennett had a goal and an assist and Casey Hartley a goal and two assists. Ilyse Angst recorded six saves on seven shots.

Kelly Paradis scored unassisted for 0-7 Nokomis. Rozlyn Peterson stopped 11 out of 19 shots.

JV: Bangor 5-1

Brewer 1, Hermon 1 (2OT)

At Pendleton Street Field in Brewer, Katie Quimby scored an unassisted first-half goal for the Witches, but Hermon came back to tie it in the second half when Torri Gibson scored unassisted.

Anna Bean made three saves on seven shots for 1-5-1 Brewer and Jessi Ford made eight saves on 12 shots for 3-4-2 Hermon.

Old Town 3, Orono 0

At Old Town, Katie Bergeron’s first-half goal, assisted by Alison Gallant, gave the Indians the only goal they needed.

Shaylee Moulton and Amy McLaughlin tallied unassisted second-half goals to back Amy McFalls, who made seven saves on 12 shots for the 6-3 Indians.

Amanda Morrison made 12 saves on 18 shots for 1-5-2 Orono.

Field hockey

Mount View 2, MCI 1

At Thorndike, Jennifer Masessa converted an Amy Miles pass with 11:07 remaining to give Mount View the win.

Miles scored off a Masessa pass to stake 4-4 Mount View to a 1-0 first-half lead, but Jessi Richardson equalized in the second half.

Carrie Beverage and Lyndsey Cronin combined for nine saves on 12 shots for the Mustangs. Courtney Hawg made 12 saves on 14 shots for 3-5-1 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

PCHS 2, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Heather Tracy scored with 17:46 left in the first half and Kristi Levesque added a second goal two minutes later to help Piscastaquis Community improve to 11-0.

Kellie Martell had two assists, and Amy Knowlton stopped all five shots.

For 5-6 Foxcroft, Ashley Smith made 15 saves on 17 shots.

JV: 1-1

Orono 1, Mattanawcook 1 (2OT)

At Orono, Dyna Vose scored unassisted for 5-4-2 MA. Melanie Markel had 15 saves on 16 shots.

Emily Sypher had an unassisted goal for 6-3-1 Orono. Anna Blagojeviz also had 15 saves against 16 shots.

JV: Mattanawcook 3-0

Hampden 3, Nokomis 2 (OT)

At Hampden, Gretchen Lefcord scored 2:37 into overtime off an Erika Veinote assist as the Broncos won their seventh game.

Veinote and Amy Ryder scored the other two goals, and Sarah Hessert and Tini Rumino had assists for 7-2 HA. Caroline Samp saved 20 of 22 shots.

Dana-Jo Gardner and Ashley Foss scored for the 5-3-1 Warriors of Newport. Kristen Gould stopped nine of 12 shots.

JV: Hampden 1-0

Stearns 6, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Holly Franck scored a pair of goals to lead Stearns of Millinocket.

Dayna Somers, Lisa Cranich, Tricia MacDonald, and Amy Collinsworth had a goal each for the 6-3 Minutemen. Deanna Michaud had two saves on six shots.

Zora Merrill stopped eight out of 15 shots for 0-10 Brewer.

JV: Stearns 3-0
