I was excited about the op-ed, “This Independent’s voting for Kerry” (BDN, Sept. 22), by former governor Angus King.
No, I’m not a former governor, I’m just a citizen, but I wanted to let readers know that I am a member of Maine’s Green Independent Party and I support Sen. Kerry. I voted for Ralph Nader in the 2000 election because I believed this country needed not only a new president, but a new direction and a new way of doing things: I still believe that, and I still believe in the values of the Green Party. In this presidential election, however, there is one issue for me: sending the people in the White House home, and electing a new president.
The only way to do that is to support and vote for Kerry. As a Green Independent, I do not agree with many points of Kerry’s platform. However, I disagree even more with this administration’s policies which undermine civil liberties, international law, and the American economy. I call on Greens, Independents and Republicans who feel that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are leading this country in the wrong direction to support Kerry.
I’m hoping to see a letter in the Bangor Daily News by some brave citizen of Maine titled, “This Republican’s voting for Kerry.”
