Brewer police knock door-to-door sales

Brewer police are warning residents not to purchase magazines from a door-to-door sales group that is not authorized to do business in the city.

A transient group of about five people representing Pacific Coast Clearing Services of Gig Harbor, Wash., doing business as LSI, began knocking on doors in Brewer several days ago. PCCS apparently does have a state permit, but has not contacted the city of Brewer for the required municipal sales permit.

Police have received several complaints about the group, which has sometimes visited homes after 8 p.m. Anyone who is approached by PCCS employees is asked to call the Brewer Police Department at 989-7000.

A pizza delivery driver was arrested Monday for operating under the influence after he hit a car parked on Stillwater Avenue in Old Town.

Jeffrey Heath, 18, was traveling east at 5:30 p.m. to deliver a pie from Angelo’s Pizzeria when his Chevrolet Blazer drifted to the right and hit an unoccupied car parked on the side of the road, according to police. The car was destroyed and the Blazer had $3,000 in damage.

Heath was put through field sobriety testing and later arrested when a drug recognition expert at the Bangor Police Department determined he was under the influence of marijuana, according to police.

A Bangor man was summoned Monday after he allegedly drove his car into a tree on Moosehead Boulevard and ran two stop signs in Bangor.

Witnesses told police that Jonathan W. Garland, 31, got into an argument with another man about statements Garland made about the man’s girlfriend, according to reports. Garland then allegedly got in his car, spun around and struck a tree before speeding away and running two stop signs, according to reports.

A Hampden police officer later located Garland and summoned him for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Correction: A “From Police Files” item in the Oct. 6 Final edition requires clarification. An Angelo’s delivery driver charged with driving while under the influence was not employed by the Bangor Angelo’s.
