Shine on, harvest food

Chef Matteo Proctor will celebrate the harvest on Oct. 16 with a wine dinner at Fredericka’s at Big Moose Inn in Millinocket Lake. Proctor has created a multicourse dinner, including Warm Orange and Fennel Salad with Smoked Salmon, Burgundy Marinated Roasted Quail and a dessert of Roasted Pumpkin Creme Brulee. Michael Goodwin of Maine Distributors will be the evening’s sommelier. Reservations are required and space is limited for the inn’s last dinner of the season. For information, call 723-8391.

No panini, no gain

Looking for a perfectly grilled sandwich oozing with warm, gooey cheese and flavorful meats? Look no further than your kitchen with Crate & Barrel’s panini grill. It’s sleek, easy and perfectly tasteful. It costs $79.95 and is available at crateandbarrel.com.

It’s not easy being cheesy

If you’re looking for a feel-gouda time, the Portland Public Market is the place to be for a celebration of Maine’s artisanal cheeses. The Maine Cheese Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, and will feature wine and cheese pairings, cooking demonstrations, and a chance to taste products made from the milk of sheep, goats and cows.
