DEXTER – Three teenagers on their way to Dexter Regional High School were injured Friday morning when the vehicle in which they were riding crashed on Route 94 near the Garland town line. A fourth teen who was the driver was uninjured.
Dexter Police Chief Art Roy would not release the names of those involved because, he said, charges against the driver are pending. He said there were two girls and two boys.
Roy said the car had been observed passing several other vehicles at a high rate of speed and, just before the accident, had passed a car as it crested a knoll.
The car, a 1986 Toyota, drove off the road and rolled over at least twice, said Roy.
“There was a big swale area and that slowed them down some. They just missed a large patch of woods,” Roy said.
One of the passengers, a female, was partially ejected through a window.
The three injured teens suffered multiple broken bones and lacerations. They all were taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dexter for treatment.
Roy said a Maine State Police accident reconstructionist was called to the scene to determine the speed at which the car was traveling at the time of the accident.
