An advocate for parish nursing will lead a daylong workshop Tuesday at the Bangor Theological Seminary. Sybil D. Smith of Lyman, S.C., will be the keynoter for “Health Care in the New Millennium: A Practical and Spiritual Approach.” A registered nurse with 30 years’ experience in community health nursing, Smith has worked with 39 congregations in 14 denominations to help establish networks among nurses, churches and health care providers. The workshop is designed for clergy, laypeople and health care providers who are interested in the integration of faith and health as well as health ministry, according to Becky Bell, who works for Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Community Wellness Service in Bangor. Parish nurses hold the spiritual dimension to be central to their work. They also encompass the physical, psychological and social dimensions of nursing practice. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the seminary, 300 Union St. There is a $75 fee. Call 1-800-287-6781.
