Clean buses not enough

In January the Bush administration sent Ted Olson, solicitor general, to the Supreme Court to fight Southern California’s air pollution rules which mandated stricter rules for school buses and other heavy polluting vehicles. Now the Bush administration has sent Mike Leavitt, EPA chief, to Maine to promote retrofitting school buses to limit air pollution.

It is obvious that an honest effort to promote clean air cannot be dismantled in one part of the country by the administration and then have this meager election timed effort promoted in Maine. This is just a distraction from the real Bush environmental agenda, which puts the interests of the petroleum and trucking industries before air quality.
