In the October 5 vice-presidential debate, Vice-President Dick Cheney asserted that he had never attempted to draw a connection between the government of Saddam Hussein and Al Qaida. There is only one problem with this assertion – it is untrue.

Ever since September 11, and as recently as this summer, Cheney has paraded around the country asserting that such a link existed, despite all evidence to the contrary. According to Democracy Now, Cheney has done this in more than 20 public appearances since September 11. Now Cheney wants to have it both ways – make a false allegation and then deny that he made the allegation. The Bush-Cheney administration lied repeatedly in the lead-up to the war in Iraq, it continues to lie about its reasons for going to war, and now it is lying about its lies.
