BIDDEFORD – Ruth Ness scored three goals, two in the first half, to lead the University of New England to a 6-2 women’s soccer victory over Husson on Monday.

Sarah Meyer chipped in with two goals and an assist for the 8-3 Nor’easters, and Megan Sevey added a goal. Lisa Baillargeon also notched two assists and Ness had one. Goalies Krystal Wysocki and Tanya Callan combined for four saves on six shots.

Nikki Corson and Amy McDaniel each scored a goal for the 4-8 Eagles of Bangor and Karolanne Emery added an assist. Goalies Kelly Bocchino, Cindy Koscielny, and Courtney Ellis combined for nine saves on 19 shots.

So. Maine 2, Westfield State 0

At Gorham, Justene Larnerd and Denise Minigell scored second-half goals as the Huskies blanked Westfield State.

Sadie Garnache-Poirier had five saves on eight shots for 2-12 USM while Kendra Newell stopped eight out of 13 shots for 8-2 Westfield State.

Men’s soccer

Southern Maine 1, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Andy Buldeman’s first-half goal lifted the Huskies to the win.

Jeff Gray had two saves on five shots for 7-2-3 USM of Gorham.

Phillip Bailey, Shawn Hiller and Ryan Conrad combined for 12 saves on 19 shots for the 3-6-1 Terriers.

Women’s soccer

So. Maine 1, U-New England 0

At Biddeford, the only goal was scored when a UNE defender deflected the ball into her own net, lifting the Huskies of Gorham to the win.

Marcy Ansley had two saves for 6-4-3 USM, while Amanda Brown recorded three for the 4-6 Nor’easters.
