Bangor woman falls prey to Internet money scam

A Bangor woman told police Tuesday that she fell victim to a computer scam and mailed thousands of dollars to Nigeria.

The woman said in August she began talking to a man in an Internet chat room who said his name was Chriscolin Sanchez.

The man, whose screen name is Sweetkingluv, claimed to belong to a royal family and said he managed stores all over the world, according to police reports.

Sanchez later mailed $5,500 in money orders to the woman, asking her to cash them and mail the money to his home in Nigeria. She spent some of the money but mailed $2,500 to Sanchez before a local bank told her the money orders were fraudulent and must be reimbursed, according to reports.

The woman previously gave Sanchez her home address in Bangor, and Sanchez said he would be in town on Friday to “get her,” according to reports. The man recently made threatening remarks by computer to the woman’s neighbor.

The woman told police she agreed to mail the money because Sanchez told her he loved her and promised her gifts, according to reports. The matter remains under investigation.

The boyfriend grabbed Rice’s arm, and one of Rice’s daughters called 911 at 11:30 p.m. while the other daughter ran outside.

Rice, who allegedly was intoxicated, was arrested and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, refusing to submit to arrest and violation of bail conditions, according to police.

Bangor police are looking for a man who stole beer and other items from two local convenience stores.

An employee at the State Street One-Stop reported Tuesday that a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt came into the store and took two 18-packs of Coors Light before running off, according to police reports.

Upon advising other stores about the theft, police learned that a man matching the suspect’s description stole an item Monday from the Big Apple on State Street and tried to steal beer, cheese and pepperoni from the Irving on Main Street, according to reports.

The suspect is described as a white man, 18 to 20 years old, with short blond hair and a thin, tall build. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bangor Police Department at 947-2254.
