BANGOR – “Luke” will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in the Beach Chapel of the Bangor Theological Seminary, 300 Union St.

Alone on stage, actor Bruce Kuhn weaves the tale of the Christ without props or sets, dressed in modern, casual clothing. The play is memorized in the King James Version.

“Luke” is a solo performance of the Gospel of Luke, memorized word for word from the New Testament and told with the same passion and surprise as at the first telling. In a compelling 90 minutes, the words come alive with the urgency and humor of someone who was there.

The show premiered at the acclaimed Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, one of America’s largest professional theaters, to enthusiastic reviews and an extended run.

After years of other acting work on Broadway and the repertory stage, Bruce Kuhn revived his “Luke” performance and now tours major universities and colleges throughout the world. He regularly tours his solo performances of “Luke,” “Acts,” “Tales of Tolstoy” and “Cotton Patch Gospel” to universities and churches across North America and Europe.

After the performance, Kuhn will offer a workshop for pastors and other church leaders wanting to give more life to their public speaking or reading.

Admission to the event is free; however a freewill offering will be received to help cover expenses. “Luke” is sponsored by the Northern Maine District of the United Methodist Church, New England Conference in partnership with Bangor Theological Seminary.
