‘Dogs trip up Raiders

MACHIAS – Marcus Frutchey saved all six shots he faced to notch his 10th shutout of the season and lead the unbeaten Machias boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over rival Washington Academy of East Machias Wednesday in high school action.

Chase Ross and Patrick McDonald each scored a goal for the 12-0 Bulldogs, who are the defending Class D state champions. James McCarthy had an assist in the regular season finale.

Jeremy Gray made five saves on 14 shots for the 11-2 Raiders.

Narraguagus 3, Jonesport-Beals 2

At Jonesport, Cory Worcester scored with 2:15 left in the second overtime as the Knights of Harrington tipped the Royals.

Worcester also scored 35 seconds into the game and Brandon Meserve added a goal for 2-10-1 Narraguagus. Josh Look stopped 19 of 25 shots.

Peter Barton scored in the second half to tie the game at 2-2 and send it to overtime. James Kelley had a goal 4:43 into the second half and Dean Faulkingham made seven saves on 10 shots for 1-11 Jonesport-Beals.

GSA 0, Ellsworth 0 (2OT)

At Blue Hill, Collin Henry made 15 saves on 17 shots to help preserve a 0-0 tie after two overtimes for 10-2-1 George Stevens Academy.

Cory Smith stopped six of 10 shots for 11-1-2 Ellsworth.

DI-Stonington 2, Sumner 1 (OT)

At Deer Isle, Nick Ciomei scored the game-winner off an assist from his brother, Collin Ciomei, with 35 seconds left in double overtime as the Mariners tipped the Tigers.

Nick Ciomei scored a first-half goal off an assist from Robbie Brown to give 6-7 DI-Stonington an early lead. Joey Ossane tied it for 1-12-1 Sumner of East Sullivan in the second half.

Thomas Robbins made 10 saves on 11 shots for the Mariners. Mason Young stopped 19 of 21 shots for the Tigers.

Searsport 2, Bucksport 1

At Searsport, Ryan Shute and Omar Chaar each scored a goal to help Searsport to the win.

Josh Hancock made nine saves on 12 shots for Searsport.

Robbie Richard scored a goal for Bucksport in the second half. Miles Bisher stopped 14 of 21 shots.

Hampden 3, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Max Silver stopped all seven shots he faced as the undefeated Broncos shut out the Witches.

Martin Earley scored twice for 12-0-1 Hampden and Billy Shannon added a goal.

Ben Davis made 11 saves on 14 shots for 4-9-1 Brewer.

Central 3, Penquis 0

At Corinth, Will Fenn scored a goal and assisted another to boost the Red Devils to the win.

Josh Underhill and Joe Faggiole each had a goal for 7-4-2 Central. Joey Kane and Nick Elliott both had an assist. Charles Haney made 11 saves on 17 shots.

Drew Hamlin stopped 16 of 25 shots for 5-8 the Patriots of Milo.

Field hockey

Orono 1, Bangor 0

At Orono, Emily Sypher scored an unassisted goal in the second half as the Red Riots tipped the Rams.

Ana Blagojevic stopped 10 of 16 shots for 10-3-1 Orono, while Sarah Hanselman had 18 saves on 22 shots for 3-11 Bangor.

Girls soccer

Bucksport 3, Orono 1

At Bucksport, Lindsey Gordon had a hat trick with three goals to lead Bucksport to the victory.

Keely Sullivan had two assists and Cassie Gourley had an assist for 9-3-1 Bucksport. Katie Hurd made no saves on three shots.

Sarah Balaban-Garber scored on a Loren Young assist with 8:43 left in the game for 1-9-3 Orono. Heather Woodbrey and Amanda Morrison combined to stop six of 13 shots.

MDI 4, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Michelle McLaughlin scored two goals to lift the Trojans to their first victory of the season.

Lily Allgood and Caitlin Glass each tallied a goal for 1-6-6 Mount Desert Island. Asia Ross made five saves on seven shots.

Cassie White scored the goal for 5-4-4 Hermon. Shannon Wiggin made 15 saves on 22 shots.

JV: 0-0

Woodland 3, Calais 2

At Woodland, Tabitha Hagenaars scored on a penalty kick with 15:09 left to break a tie and lift the Dragons past the rival Blue Devils.

Hagenaars also scored in the first half off an assist from Heidi Graceffa. Gena Clark hooked up with Jillian Noyes and Melissa Carter for 6-7 Woodland’s second goal. Cynthia Bergin made 12 saves on 16 shots.

Danielle Feck and Emily Smith each had an unassisted goal as 5-7-2 Calais tried to rally. Stephanie Perry made seven saves on 10 shots.
