Libraries offer domestic violence info

ORONO – October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, will be marked by Think About It, a library outreach project.

Information about domestic violence will be on display in participating public and school libraries this month.

The display will include information about domestic abuse and healthy relationships in the form of books, brochures, posters and free bookmarks for library patrons.

Some libraries also will host a children’s event: Hands are not for Hurting. One such event was held Oct. 6 in Bangor. Another will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Orono Public Library.

Think about It has been organized by Spruce Run. Bookmarks with information about healthy relationships and being helpful to a friend or family member are available for library patrons. Books about abuse and dating violence, on display throughout October, will be donated by Spruce Run to the permanent collections of participating public and school libraries.

Information about Spruce Run, the domestic violence project serving Penobscot County, will be included in the display.

Spruce Run’s 24-hour hot line, (800) 863-9909, is available to those affected by domestic abuse and serves as a place to talk about the situation and to explore options.
