BANGOR – A New Hampshire man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Penobscot County Superior Court to stabbing a Brewer man.

Larry Wilfred Gagne Jr., 28, whose last known address was Enfield, N.H., was arrested Aug. 29, the day after allegedly stabbing the man who is living with Gagne’s former girlfriend.

Gagne pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault and burglary in connection with the stabbing. He was indicted earlier this month by the Penobscot County grand jury.

The 25-year-old victim was discovered by Brewer police about 9:15 p.m. Aug. 28, lying in a pool of blood in the driveway of an apartment complex at 446 N. Main St. According to court documents, the victim was stabbed in his neck, shoulder and head on his left side.

The victim has been released from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and is recovering from the attack, Penobscot County Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts said Thursday after Gagne’s arraignment.

Maine Superior Court Justice Thomas E. Delahanty II continued bail previously set in 3rd District Court in Bangor of $100,000 surety or $50,000 cash.

Gagne remains in Penobscot County Jail unable to make bail.
