PORTLAND – Holiday festivities planned at the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, author of the poem “Evangeline,” will show how Christmas was celebrated in the 1850s.

The Victorian home, lavishly decorated for the season, will be open for house tours, children’s activities and the annual Holiday Book and Gift Fair, held next door.

Daily tours will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, through Thursday, Dec. 30, at 489 Congress St., except for Dec. 24 and 25.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 15.
