MACHIAS – Donatas Sumyla scored twice to give the UMaine-Fort Kent Bengals the Sunrise Conference regular-season title with a 3-1 men’s soccer win over the UM-Machias Clippers Saturday.
Rob Rochester chipped in with a goal on an Anthony Lamarr assist. Evan Timusk scored for UMM on an assist from Luke Beckett. Nick Thibodeau made 10 saves on 17 shots for UM-Fort Kent. Andy Swift stopped eight of 17 shots for the Clippers.
Plymouth State 1, S. Maine 0
At Plymouth, N.H., Saturday, Takeru Tanikawa scored the winning goal with 17 minutes left on an assist from Felix Rosen. Dan Custance made four saves from 7-3-3 Southern Maine.
SMCC 6, Unity 3
At South Portland, Tom Graney led Southern Maine Community College with two goals and an assist. Josh Blair, Matt Belonick and Daryl Aresco each scored for Unity.
Jon Breard made four saves on seven shots for SMCC. Tyler Ferguson saved six shots out of 12 for Unity.
Husson 3, Johnson State 3
At Bangor Saturday, the game went into triple overtime but neither team was able to triumph.
Chirs Cacela scored the game-tying goal for Husson with 6:41 remaining. T.J. Navue and Mike Hofman also scored.
Michael Grieco scored twice for 3-10-1 Johnson (Vt.) State.
Matt Goodman made 10 saves on 19 shots for 6-5-1Husson and Kegan Pettit made eight saves on 17 shots.
Amherst 2, Colby 0
At Amherst, Mass., Saturday, John Kneeland scored his first career goal 15 minutes into the game. Brian Davidson made four saves on 14 shots for 3-5-2 Colby.
Union 1, St. Joseph’s 0
At Union, Chris Poey scored the winning goal for the Dutchmen off an assist from Andrew Jacobson. Brian White made five saves for St. Joseph’s of Standish.
Mt. Ida 1, UM-Farmington 0
At Newton Centre, Mass., Saturday, David Moynihan netted the game’s lone goal as the Mount Ida defense completed its seventh shutout of the season. Seabren Reeves made seven saves on 14 shots for 6-5 UMaine-Farmington.
Castleton 2, MMA 0
At Castine, Saturday, Mike Pickering scored unassisted and Trevor Chapman headed a cross from Justin Fleming into to back of the net as Castleton State defeated the Mariners. Josh Heath faced 18 shots and saved six for 1-9-2 Maine Maritime.
Lasell 1, UM-Farmington 0
At Newton, Mass., Sunday, Brian Whelan scored the game-winner off a Matt Denham assist as Lassell took a win. Seabren Reeves saved four shots for 6-6 UM-Farmington.
Husson 2, Castleton State 0
At Bangor, Sunday, T.J. Navue led the Eagles to a win with a goal and an assist.
Chris Cacela also had a goal and Oscar Ody had an assist for Husson. Matt Goodman saved 15 of the 20 shots he faced.
UMM 3, UM-Presque Isle 1
At Machias Sunday, Steven Hill, Mike Ziedler and Luke Beckett each scored for UM-Machias. Trevor Parent scored for UM-Presque Isle with 1:43 left in the game.
Jack Brunino made one save on five shots for 9-4-1 UMM. Braden Dragonmir saved 9 of 19 shots for UMPI.
Women’s soccer
UM-Fort Kent 8, UM-Augusta 0
At Fort Kent Sunday, Maria Williams and Polly Pelletier each had two goals as the Bengals earned the win.
Nicole Sirois added a goal and an assist. Amber Nadeau, Sara Quint and Brittney McQueston each chipped in with a goal and Kara Jackson made five saves on seven shots.
Cassie Thompson stopped nine of 18 shots for the Moose.
Castleton State 2, MMA 1
At Castine Saturday, Amy Yandow scored two goals for Castleton on assists from Jaqueline Borelli and Erin Hanlon.
Kristen Gaylord scored in the second half for Maine Maritime.
Megan Marshall of 7-5-1 MMA made five saves. Jennifer Morgan of 8-1 Castleton State made three.
UM Farmington 1, Mt. Ida 0
At Newton Centre, Mass., Saturday, Heidi Parker scored the winning goal only 3:51 into the game. Melissa Demerchant and Kerry Kowalczyk combined in 8-4-2 Farmington’s goal for a shut out.
Amherst 3, Colby 2
At Amherst, Mass., Saturday, Tracy Montigny scored the winning goal in double overtime for Amherst.
Laura Williamson scored the first goal for 6-4-1Colby.
Amy Armstrong and Ashley Harmeling took Amherst into the lead, scoring one goal apiece. At the 78th minute, Colby’s Libba Cox tied the game. Liz Riely saved six of 17 shots for Colby.
Lasell 5, Thomas 0
At Newton, Mass., Saturday, Jamie Duran scored the first goal, leading the Lasers to victory. Jennifer Brockmeier made one save for 5-7-1 Lasell. Danielle Searles made 15 saves for Thomas College.
USM 4, Plymouth State 1
At Gorham, Liz Brunton, Devin Edwards, Amanda Valeriani and Kelsey Shamano each scored second-half goals for the University of Southern Maine. Marcy Ansley had one save for 7-4-3 USM.
Lasell 2, UMF 2 (2OT)
At Newton, Mass., Sunday, Jodie Welch and Heidi Parker each scored for 8-4-3 UMaine-Farmington to tie it and send it into double overtime. Melissa DeMerchant and Kerry Kavaliczy combined for 5 saves for UMF.
UM Machias 3, UM Presque Isle 1
At Machias, Cathy Wilson scored twice on assists from Sarah Ricker and Shelley Hayden to lead UM-Machias by UM-Presque Isle Saturday.
Christina Rich added a goal for the winners on an assist from Jessie Kuester. Tara Cropley scored for 5-6-1 UMPI.
Angela Qualey saved six on 10 shots for 9-4 UMM. Anna Lenentine made 11 saves on 21 shots for UMPI.
Johnson State 2, MMA 1
At Castine, Casey Rusin scored on a breakaway with three minutes left, giving Johnson State the victory Sunday.
Amy Asselin scored for MMA and Meghan Marshall made three saves on seven shots.
Husson 3, Castleton State 0
At Bangor, Beatriz DeYcaza, Elissa Gordon and Deidra Ham all pitched in with a goal for the Eagles Sunday.
Leah Drew made seven saves for the winners.
Maine 3, Vermont 1
At Orono, rookie Laura Harper scored a pair of goals, leading Maine to victory Sunday. Erin Corey chipped in with the game-winning goal.
Melissa Witkiewicz scored in the 85th minute for Vermont off an indirect kick from Jamie Koehnlein.
Tanya Adorno saved one shot of six for Maine. Lindsay Carfagna made five saves on 21 shots for Vermont.
Field hockey
UM-Farmington 2, Becker 0
At Farmington Sunday, Kristy Veazie and Sarah Greenwald both scored a goal to power UMaine-Farmington.
Mary Sinclair and Kristen Allen made the assists. Ashleigh Biette stopped four of the ten shots she faced for 10-4 Farmington.
Thomas 2, Elms 1
At Waterville Sunday, Cindy Bouchard scored 16:30 into the first half to break a tie and lift the Terriers to the win.
Bouchard also assisted on an Amber Richard goal. Richard assisted on Bouchard’s winner and Jen Lane made four saves on five shots for 6-7 Thomas.
Colby 1, Amherst 0
At Amherst, Mass., Saturday, Christine Maloney scored the game-winner 7:46 into the first half off a feed from Adrienne LeClair to lift the White Mules.
Molly Rice notched her fourth shutout of the season, making two saves on three shots for 6-5 Colby.
