For the past four years, wrote Justine Mencl, the Pittsfield Garden Club has sponsored bus tours throughout New England and Canada which, apparently, have been very successful.
For those who’ve taken some of the trips, and for those who would like to see and hear what garden tours elsewhere are like, the PGC has a wonderful opportunity for you.
Lois Stack of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will give a slide presentation, “Gardening Methods in Europe: What Can be Adapted by Maine Gardeners,” at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Universalist Unitarian Church on Easy Street in Pittsfield.
Mencl describes Stack as “a guest speaker who really plans grand garden tours,” and wants you to know that Stack is the designer and overseer of Rogers Farm Gardens at the university.
This event is free and open to the public.
Before the lecture, the PGC will host its annual Harvest Supper at 5:30 p.m. at that site and you are invited to attend the meal as well.
Those wishing to enjoy the Harvest Supper are asked to call Mencl, 487-5670, or menu coordinator Belinda Coots, 938-4174.
People contributing food for the supper are asked to arrive at 5 p.m.
“All who have traveled on any of the Pittsfield Garden Bus Tours,” Mencl wrote, “are especially invited to attend this double-header event.”
The PGC contributes to scholarships for the Maine Conservation Camp, presents senior awards in botany, and tends many community gardens in the Pittsfield area.
The club’s “subject meetings” are always open to the public “at no charge,” Mencl added.
Obviously, PGC members are looking forward to Stack’s presentation, and hope you will attend.
You are invited to attend the annual meeting of Bangor Community Theatre at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Sea Dog restaurant in Bangor.
