BOISE, Idaho – Stronger paper and wood product prices and higher office supply sales offset some losses from the hurricanes in the Southeast to more than double third quarter profits for Boise Cascade Corp. from a year ago, the company reported Tuesday.

The Boise-based company posted a profit of $61.1 million, or 63 cents per share, for the three months through Sept. 30. That compared to a profit of $30 million, or 43 cents a share.

Sales surged more than 70 percent to $3.65 billion from $2.11 billion a year earlier, thanks to last December’s acquisition of OfficeMax Inc.
