Baseball league

HAMPDEN – A baseball league for children under 10 will start during the week commencing Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Maine Sports Complex, 330 Coldbrook Road. Each team will play once a week, indoors, for a 10-week period.

Soccer tournaments and skills challenges for middle school-age children will be held Saturday Oct. 23, and for junior varsity players on Saturday Oct. 30. Cheering clinic

OLD TOWN – A cheering clinic will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at Old Town High School. Kindergarten through grade 4 will meet 8 a.m.-noon, and fifth through eighth grades will meet 1-5 p.m.

The $25 fee includes a T-shirt. Make checks payable to Friends of Old Town Cheering.

Instructional basketball

BANGOR – The instructional basketball program for kindergarten through grade two will be held for four weeks beginning Oct. 30.

Kindergarten children will play at 9 a.m., first-graders at 10 a.m., second-graders at 11 a.m.

The fee is $25 for Bangor residents, $35 for others. Register at Bangor Parks and Recreation. For information, call 992-4490.

High school bowling

BANGOR – High school bowling is about to start. It will be held 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Oct. 26, at Family Fun Bowling Center, 15 Hildreth St.

Costs related to practice and match games will be fully funded by the various lanes.

The Penobscot Area Bowling Conference will start its second season in November. Any student currently in high school may participate in the program.

Youth basketball

BANGOR – The Bangor Y is accepting registrations for youth basketball leagues and the Bangor Y Storm travel teams.

Youth leagues are for 4-year-olds to 12th-graders. Storm travel teams are for fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls, and for seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls.

Tryouts for the Storm are Sunday Oct. 31.

Volunteer coaches are needed for all leagues and must attend a coaches’ meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Hammond Street Y.

Practices begin Monday Oct. 25. Financial assistance is available.

Youth archery

BANGOR – The Bangor Y is accepting registrations for its youth archery program for ages 8 to 18.

The class is taught 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Thursdays in the Columbia Street Church gym.

Instruction is available for beginners. Class begins Thursday Oct. 28. Financial assistance is available. Call Lance Cote at 941-2815 for more information.

ORRINGTON – The Orrington recreation committee soccer teams completed on Oct. 9 their fourth week of games. With the regular season half over, coaches said they have seen significant improvement in player’s skills.

Midget/U10 League

. Orrington Recreation, 2; Crescent Lumber, 0. Matt Dunning kicked in the two goals for T.J.’s Market.

. Maine Test Borings, 3; UMaine, 0. Kevin Leclerc cinched all three goals for Maine Test Borings.

. Pine Hill Services, 2; Garrett’s Auto Sales, 0. Evan Pelkey scored the two goals for Pine Hill Services.

Youth(U14) League

. Raiders, 2; PERC, 0. Ben Turner and Nick Abbott booted in the two goals for the Raiders.

. Rocky Knoll, 4; S.W. Cole, 2. Andrew Jacobs scored two, and Nate Carson and T.J. Bouchard one apiece for the Raiders. Jeremy Gray put in the two for S.W.Cole.

Instructional basketball

OLD TOWN – The Old Town Parks and Recreation Department is starting its kindergarten through second-grade instructional basketball program. The program runs Saturday mornings: Nov. 6, 13 and 20; and Dec. 4, 11, and 18 at the Old Town Elementary School.

The program emphasizes the fundamentals of basketball. Parents are encouraged to participate.

The fee for the program is $12 for residents, $15 for others. Registration forms are available at the Old Town Parks and Recreation Department at the Herbert Sargent School, Bennoch Road. Call 827-3961 to obtain more information.
