SMYRNA – A total of seven people were injured Wednesday during separate motor vehicle accidents in Aroostook County.
The first accident occurred on Interstate 95 shortly before 9:30 a.m. Maine State Police Trooper Daniel Deschaine said that Jennifer Beaulieu, 20, was driving southbound in a 2004 Chevy Blazer with four passengers when she apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle drifted onto the shoulder before Beaulieu awoke and overcorrected while trying to get the Blazer back on to the road. The vehicle rolled over three times before coming to rest near the roadway.
Beaulieu was partially ejected from the vehicle. Ryan McEwen, 21, suffered minor injuries in the accident, as did Jessica Vienneau, 18. Vienneau’s daughter, Mataya Vienneau, who is 8 months old, also received minor injuries, as did 9-month-old Thomas McEwen.
Deschaine said that the group was reportedly going to Lincoln. The exact residence of each of the vehicle occupants could not be determined.
All of the occupants were wearing seat belts, and everyone except for the driver was treated and then released from Houlton Regional Hospital, according to Deschaine. Beaulieu was taken by Houlton ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be treated for her injuries, the extent of which are unknown.
Houlton fire and ambulance personnel assisted at the scene.
Later that afternoon, police were dispatched to another accident on the South Oakfield Road in Linneus.
Deschaine said Wednesday that Melissa Tidd, 23, of Hodgdon was headed west in a 1999 Saturn four-door automobile when her foot got caught up in the floor mat. While she was trying to fix the mat, she got distracted and the vehicle swerved into the shoulder of the road and rolled over.
The trooper said that Tidd’s passenger, 18-year-old Sasha Pullen of Houlton, suffered a broken arm in the crash. Both women were taken by Houlton ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital. Tidd was still being evaluated Wednesday evening.
The Houlton Fire Department also assisted with the incident.
Deschaine said that no charges will be filed in connection with either accident.
