MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Rachael Hilgar scored two goals and assisted on another to power the University of Maine field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Vermont Friday in college action.
Amie Dubois and Kasey Spencer each scored a goal for the 11-4 Black Bears. Joanne Fernandes and Meagan Connolly each had an assist. Jamie Morin made five saves on 11 shots.
Kerrie-Beth Maynard scored on a Nikki Deech assist at 68:08 for the 2-14 Catamounts. Ariel Eber stopped 10 of 18 shots.
Volleyball
Northeastern 3, Maine 0
At Orono, Whitney Turner had 18 kills and nine digs to help lead the Huskies past the Black Bears 30-24, 30-20, 30-28.
Bree Peterson had 35 set assists and 10 digs for 5-1 Northeastern. Larissa Adomat had nine kills and Kira Batura added 14 digs.
Carmen Morgan had 11 digs, seven kills, and one block for 3-3 Maine and Leah Guidinger added nine kills and eight digs. Shelly Seipp had 37 set assists and Jody Connacher had 12 digs. Kaili Jordan had nine kills and six digs and Brittany Howe had 10 kills.

OSU suspends tailback
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State tailback Lydell Ross was suspended for Saturday’s game against Indiana by coach Jim Tressel for undisclosed reasons.
The suspension was announced Friday in a news release from the university. Sports information director Steve Snapp declined comment and an e-mail message to Ross was not immediately returned.
