McGee, Eagles capture 2nd straight NAC title

ORONO – Husson College golfers captured the top three spots to win the North Atlantic Conference title at Penobscot Valley Country Club Monday.

The Eagles of Bangor posted a two-round score of 602 to beat UMaine-Farmington’s 637. Thomas College of Waterville finished third with 646, followed by Elms College of Chicopee, Mass. (650), Becker College of Leicester, Mass. (697), and Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (725).

Ross McGee helped the Eagles win their second straight NAC title by taking medalist honors with a 2-over-par 146. He recorded a 3-under-par 69 in the second round.

Teammate John Ellis finished second (147), Lance Libby placed third (149) and Randy Picard tied for eighth (160).

Sean Hammond of Elms finished fourth with a 154 and Bill Schmedes of Thomas was fifth at 155.

McGee also earned the NAC player of the year award and Husson coach Bruce MacGregor was named coach of the year.

Ellis and Libby were named to the NAC’s all-conference first team along with Hammonds, Schmedes and UMF’s Aaron Wood.
