Chief dental officer
Penobscot Community Health Center has announced the appointment of Dr. J. Curtis Dailey as the chief dental officer of the dental clinic at 1048 Union St. in Bangor.
Dailey moved to Bangor from Augusta, Ga., where he was stationed at Fort Gordon. He recently retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army Dental Corps after 25 years of service.
Dailey graduated from Ohio State University in 1978 and practiced dentistry in Zanesville, Ohio, before joining the Army. After a three-year tour of duty in Germany, he was stationed in Hawaii for five years, where he spent more than three years as the first full-time forensic dentist in the U.S. Army at the Army’s Central Identification Laboratory. Dailey is board-certified in forensic dentistry and is the president of the American Society of Forensic Odontology, the largest forensic dental organization in the world.
Dailey was stationed in El Paso, Texas; and at Fort Campbell, Ken. He has published many scientific papers and textbook chapters. He has lectured around the United States and internationally. He also worked for the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office during and after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Penobscot Community Health Center Dental Clinic is a 15-chair facility staffed by six full-time dentists and many dental professionals, including nine registered dental hygienists, 15 dental assistants and other professionals.
Penobscot Community Health Center was established in 1997 and is the only federally qualified health center in the Bangor area. Its mission is to provide a wide range of out-patient health care services to those on MaineCare, Medicare and those with and without insurance, regardless of ability to pay. The dental clinic provides a full range of services including examinations, fillings, extractions, cleanings and preventative services.
Early childhood education
The Penquis Community Action Program Resource Development Center is offering nine hours of training in Introduction to Early Childhood Education 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, Dec. 1-3, at Penquis CAP, 262 Harlow St.
Training topics include historical perspective of early childhood education in the United States, major types of early childhood education programs, a survey of major theorists who have contributed to the field and an overview of common terminology.
There is a $15 registration fee, with no refunds. Current child care providers may apply for reimbursement of the fee. For information or to register, call 973-3533.
New affiliation
Licensed massage therapist Cynthia Ingalls announced her new affiliation with the Complimentary Therapy Center, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Park, Building 1, 900 Broadway, Bangor. She will begin practice at that location Monday, Nov. 1.
Ingalls will continue her affiliation, Tuesdays and Fridays, with the University of Maine’s Cutler Health Center.

Governor’s Award
Three weeks remain for Maine businesses to submit their nominations for the Governor’s Award for Business Excellence. The entry deadline is Nov. 19.
The Governor’s Award recognizes businesses that demonstrate a consistently high level of commitment to manufacturing or customer service, their employees and their community.
Construction companies, automotive repair businesses, financial institutions, food service companies, energy providers and small and large manufacturers and service businesses have received the Governor’s Award since it was first presented in 1991.

Credit Day
Oct. 21 was a nationally recognized Get Smart About Credit day by the American Bankers Association. Bankers nationwide taught teens and young adults about using credit wisely now so they can make better financial decisions later.
Bangor Savings Bank bankers taught a 90-minute Get Smart About Credit at its G. Clifton Eames Learning Center in Bangor. Sixty-nine students and four teachers from Orono High School, Brewer High School, John Bapst Memorial High School and Hampden Academy attended the class.
Staff members of other Bangor Savings Banks throughout Maine also helped teach teens and young adults how to manage credit.

Brewer
Credit union branch
Maine Savings Federal Credit Union announced plans to open a new branch in Brewer in December. The Brewer branch will be Maine Savings’ seventh, and will be located in the Twin City Plaza at 278 State St.
Scheduled to open in early December, the Brewer branch will be a full-service office providing a complete menu of financial services including personal banking, commercial services, mortgages, financial planning and investment services.
Established in 1961 as BARCO Federal Credit Union, it was the credit union for Bangor & Aroostook Railroad Co. In the 43 years since, Maine Savings has grown to be the largest credit union in Maine.
