MACHIAS – Joel Davila scored a game-high 17 points Wednesday night to help lead the University of Maine-Machias Clippers to a season-opening 77-47 men’s basketball victory over St. Thomas University of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Jeremiah Johnson tossed in 15 points for UMaine-Machias.
Steve Lawrence led St. Thomas with 11 points.

At Waterville, Michelle Crisp netted two goals and added one assist as the visiting Monks gained the win.
Allison Walton also had goal and Karla Emerson made an assist for 9-7-1 Saint Joseph’s of Standish. Shauna Howard stopped three of seven shots.
Danielle Searles stopped five of 20 shots and Shauna Lessard had one save on four shots for the 0-12-1 Terriers.

At Bangor, Beatriz DeYcaza scored twice as the Eagles posted a win.
Laura Clarke and Elissa Gordon each had a goal and an assist for 11-4-2 Husson. Melissa Achorn also had an assist and Leah Drew saved all 13 shots she faced.
Anna Lenentine made 25 saves on 29 shots for 6-7-1 UMaine-Presque Isle.
Men’s soccer
Southern Maine 3, Salem State 0
At Gorham, Andy Budelman scored two first-half goals to lead the Huskies to the victory.
Jonathan Martens finished the scoring and also assisted on one of Budelman’s goals. Chris Willard did not have to make a save to earn his seventh shutout of the season for 10-3-3 Southern Maine.
Carlos Carmelo had four saves on 21 shots for 4-12 Salem State.
Field hockey
Colby 7, Saint Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Wendy Bonner scored three goals and Lauren Smith added two more in the White Mules’ victory.
Jennifer Reilly and Adrienne LeClair scored once each for 7-6 Colby of Waterville. Mary Claire McGovern helped with two assists and Jamie Enos didn’t need to make any saves.
Ilissa Vallee and Kelsey Moody combined to make 14 saves on 30 shots for 2-14 Saint Joseph’s.
Bowdoin 5, Southern Maine 0
At Gorham, Christi Gannon scored two goals and Marissa O’Neil added a goal and an assist as the Polar Bears blanked the Huskies.
Val Young and Sarah Horn also scored, with Taryn King adding two assists for 10-3 Bowdoin of Brunswick. Kate Leonard and Corey Bergen combined to save all three shots they saw.
Sadie Garnache-Poirier made 17 saves on 23 shots for 3-16 Southern Maine.
