BANGOR – A Glenburn man remained Wednesday at the Penobscot County Jail on a probation hold, two days after he was arrested in connection with a string of business burglaries in the city.
Peter Allemby Everett, 32, was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft, although Bangor police Detective Tim Cotton said the investigation continues into the burglaries and that more charges may be filed.
At least five businesses were broken into late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Bangor police also have charged Everett’s alleged accomplice and associate, Rachel Gardiner, 19, of Brewer, with burglary, criminal trespass and possession of stolen property.
Officers reportedly found Gardiner on Monday morning passed out in a vacant efficiency apartment on Hammond Street, down the street from where one of the burglaries took place.
Cotton said a cash register drawer from The Growing Place, on Hammond Street, was found with her.
Investigators also were looking into a report that the office at the apartment complex was broken into as well, making it the fifth business to be burglarized.
With Gardiner in custody, police officers continued to look for Everett and found him before 9 p.m. Monday night.
Bangor police Officer Russell Twaddell said he was at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on other police business when he noticed Everett in the emergency room.
Twaddell said he has had prior dealings with Everett and knew he was wanted. The officer said he arrested Everett without incident.
