PORTLAND – Two brothers who were being sought as suspects in last week’s fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Portland were being held at the Cumberland County Jail after they turned themselves in early Tuesday.

Brandon Mills, 20, and his brother Antwane, 18, arrived at the jail at about 3:30 a.m., accompanied by family members. The two were questioned by police, then returned to the jail.

Brandon Mills has been charged with murder and Antwane Mills with felony murder in the Oct. 21 stabbing of Jarmaine Ramirez at his family’s second-floor apartment on Congress Street.

Police said the brothers entered the apartment building after Antwane was hit with liquid that youngsters apparently were throwing onto the street from a window in the apartment.

Ramirez, a student at Portland High School, lived in the apartment with his mother and five siblings.

Brandon and Antwane Mills were from the Dorchester section of Boston, but had been living in Maine for several months. Police had enlisted the help of Boston police and state police in Maine and Massachusetts in an effort to find the two.
