WINTERPORT – Winterport Open Stage will present John Patrick’s family comedy, “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30, and Nov. 5 and 6; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Wagner Middle School, Mountainview Drive, Winterport.
The play, directed by Jenny Hart, has a cast that includes Theresa Curtis, Steven Douglas, Kate England, Angela Khorll, Martha MacLeod, Kurt Madden and Jennifer Ouellette.
Fed up with her acting career, the famous Myra Marlowe rents a cottage in the tiny New England hamlet of Beaver Haven and settles down to write her autobiography. She is successful in turning aside romantic overtures by
her longtime agent, but
dealing with her nosy neighbors is a different matter.
In an attempt to shoo them away, Myra invents a mad, homicidal sister, kept locked in an upstairs room, but who occasionally escapes long enough to scare off uninvited visitors. The ruse works well, but complications result when the redneck handyman develops an affection for “Sister Sadie” – really Myra in a fright wig.
Some of the more officious ladies decide it is their Christian duty to save poor demented Sadie’s soul.
In desperation, Myra announces that her imaginary sibling has suddenly gone off to Boston – which brings on the sheriff and the suspicion of murder.
Tickets at $6, $3 for children and seniors, may be purchased at the door, or in advance at Rebecca’s in downtown Bangor, Schacht’s True Value Hardware in Hampden or at Molly’s in Winterport.
