Energetic Destiny, 6, likes to sing

Destiny is a cute, energetic and fun little girl with blond hair and blue eyes who enjoys watching movies, playing with friends and exploring the outdoors. She loves Cinderella and other Disney characters, is creative, has a great imagination and can often be heard singing to herself.

Destiny visited the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor in late August in conjunction with a filming session for a “Thursday’s Child” television segment on WABI-TV 5.

During her visit, Destiny explored all parts of the museum and particularly enjoyed checking out the nostril of a human head on display that helped teach visitors of all ages about different parts of the body.

WABI-TV 5 News Anchor Sharon Pelletier, always a good sport at unique and child-friendly filming locations, was able to convince Destiny – who was a bit camera-shy – to be interviewed for the segment. The “convincing” process, however, came with a hefty price tag for Pelletier, as she first had to poke her head into the adjoining nostril before the interview.

Destiny came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in August 2002.

Six-year-old Destiny is in the first grade, does well academically, and is working at grade level. While she receives special assistance at school to help her control her behavior, Destiny has many friends and enjoys playing with them.

Destiny attends therapy sessions weekly and has made significant progress. She would be most successful in a two-parent family that has experience in parenting children with special needs. Destiny also will require an adoptive family that can give her a considerable amount of attention and supervision.

Destiny is one of 221 Maine children in Maine DHHS care seeking an adoptive home. For more information about Destiny or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME at 1-877-505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
