MACHIAS – Brian Handasyde scored the winning goal with 8:50 left in the game Saturday, sending the University of Maine-Machias on to the Sunrise Conference men’s soccer finals with a 1-0 semifinal win over Lyndon State (Vt.).

The Clippers will travel to UMaine-Fort Kent for Saturday’s league title game.

Jack Brunino made six saves on nine shots for the 10-4-1 Clippers. Nick Rowa made 16 saves on 26 shots for 8-7-1 Lyndon State.

Stony Brook 1, Maine 0

At Stony Brook, N.Y., Chris Megaloudiz scored off a Zach Norwood assist 43 seconds into the contest on Sunday, giving the Seawolves the margin of victory.

John Moschella made four saves on six shots for Stony Brook (10-5-2 overall, 3-3-2 America East).

Chad Mongeon made only two saves on 15 shots for UMaine (4-8-3, 1-5-2 AE).

Husson 1, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington on Sunday, Kliton Zhemali scored an unassisted goal that glanced off UMaine-Farmington ‘keeper Seabren Reeves with 11:55 remaining, lifting the Eagles to a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal win.

Matt Goodman made three saves on eight shots for 9-5-1 Husson College of Bangor.

Reeves finished with no saves and faced only five shots for the 8-7-1 Beavers.

UMFK 2, St. Joseph (Vt.) 1

At Fort Kent on Sunday, sweeper Charlie Bard made a kick save on a rebound with three minutes left, helping the Bengals hold on to earn a Sunrise Conference semifinal victory over the College of St. Joseph (Vt.).

Rob Rochester scored both goals, one in each half, for 11-3-2 UMaine-Fort Kent. Justin Dunlea set up the first goal and Bard assisted on the other, which came with five minutes left. Nick Thibodeau made four saves on eight shots.

Ian MacLauchlan scored for 6-8-2 St. Joseph. Michael Long made five saves on 12 shots.

Castleton State 3, Thomas 0

At Castleton, Vt., on Sunday, Jesse Brown’s goal 4:17 into the game proved all Castleton State would need to earn the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal win over Thomas College of Waterville.

Nate Williams and Kyle Wilson scored a goal each for the winner. Joel Leichtnam made four saves on seven shots.

Shawn Hiller and Ryan Conrad combined to made eight saves on 27 shots for the Terriers.

E. Connecticut 1, So. Maine 0

At Willimantic, Conn., Carl Segura scored the winning goal off a Kevin Marshall assist in sudden-death overtime on Sunday, lifting the Warriors to victory.

Jay Barney made no saves on nine shots for 6-10-3 Eastern Connecticut. Chris Willard made three saves on 13 shots for the 10-4-3 Huskies of Gorham.

Green Mountain 3, St. Joseph’s 0

At Jersey City, N.J., Chris Nevitt led the attack for Green Mountain College on Saturday, scoring two goals in the Association of Division III Independents Northeast Regional Tournament.

Sean Burns also scored for the winners. Matt Rominger made four saves on 10 shots for 8-9 Green Mountain.

Brian White made six saves on 25 shots for 6-11-1 Saint Joseph’s College of Standish.

So. Maine 2, W. Connecticut 1

At Gorham on Sunday, Kevin Colwell scored the winning goal with seven minutes left in the game.

Andy Budelman scored the first goal for Southern Maine, quickly followed by a goal from Western Connecticut’s Bradley Fidler.

Jeff Gray saved 6 shots for 11-4-3 Southern Maine. Paul Melitsanopoulos saved three shots for 5-11-3 WCSU.

Bowdoin 1, Amherst 0

At Brunswick on Sunday, Simon Parson scored the game’s only goal 10:39 into the second half, lifting the Polar Bears to a NESCAC quarterfinal victory.

Andrew Russo assisted on the goal for 10-5 Bowdoin College. Nathan Lovitz made six saves for the winners.

Greg Lockwood made two saves for 10-5 Amherst (Mass.).

Bates 1, Colby 0

At Lewiston on Saturday, Terence O’Connell sored the winning goal for Bates off an Ithai Schori assist. The goal tied the school record of 50 goals scored in a season, set in 1996.

James Kenly of 10-3-1 Bates made two saves on five shots for the shutout. Josh Kahane made five saves on 10 shots for 5-7-2 Colby.

Women’s soccer

Husson 3, Johnson State 0

At Bangor on Sunday, Beatriz DeYcaza scored two goals, one in each half, to spearhead the Eagles to a North Atlantic Conference victory over Johnson State (Vt.).

Shelby Morrisette scored a second-half goal for 12-4-2 Husson, while Kaylin Caron assisted on all three goals. Leah Drew made 11 saves while posting her eighth shutout of the season.

Casey Rusin made 15 saves on 18 shots for 6-11-2 Johnson State.

UM-Farmington 2, Elms 1

At Farmington on Sunday, Erin Campbell scored in overtime, lifting the Beavers to a North Atlantic Conference win over Elms.

Angela Kendall scored off an assist from Jodie Welsh with 11 seconds remaining in regulation for 11-5-3 UMaine-Farmington. Melissa DeMerchant made two saves for the winners.

Joanna Novak scored in the second half for Elms College of Chicopee, Mass.

Stony Brook 1, Maine 0

At Stony Brook, N.Y., Victoria Feliciano scored the winning goal 14 minutes into the game Saturday off a pass from Kelly Bahnsen.

Cindy Bennett saved seven shots for 7-8-4 Stony Brook. Maine ‘keeper Tanya Adorno had no saves. Maine (12-5-1) outshot Stony Brook 13-2.

Maine finished the season second in the America East standings.

Lyndon State 4, UM-Machias 3

At Machias on Saturday, Meg Skidmore helped Lyndon State (Vt.) win the Sunrise Conference championship with two unassisted goals.

Darcey LeBlanc and Jennifer Kirchoff each added a goal for the 9-6-1 winners. Lindsay Maguire saved eight of 17 shots.

Cathy Wilson, Jessie Kuester and Erin O’Callahan each scored for 11-5 UMM. Angela Qualey made six saves on 13 shots.

Castleton State 2, MMA 1

At Castleton, Vt. On Sunday, Hayley Daden scored an unassisted goal with 2:08 left in the first half, lifting the hosts to a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal victory over the Mariners.

Brean Farguherson scored a first-half goal for Castleton State. Jen Morgan made four saves on 11 shots.

Lindsey Comeau scored for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine off assists from Ashley Douglas and Ashley Brooker. Meghan Marshall made nine saves on 18 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 4, UMPI 0

At New London, Conn., Danielle McLaughlin scored two goals to lead Saint Joseph’s past UMaine-Presque Isle at the New England Cup tournament.

Allison Walton and Michelle Crisp each scored for the 8-7-1 Monks. Ally Orlando made 12 saves for the shutout.

Anna Lenentine saved 10 shots for UMPI.

At Lewiston on Sunday, Katherine Whitley scored two goals to lead the Polar Bears to a NESCAC quarterfinal victory.

Grace Moore scored the third goal for 9-5-1 Bowdoin College of Brunswick, while Rachael Gordon provided two assists. Anna Shapell made three saves on seven shots.

Emily Howieson and Kelly Wakeham combined for seven saves on 18 shots for 9-4-2 Bates.

E. Connecticut 3, So. Maine 1

At Gorham on Saturday, the Warriors scored three times in three minutes to overtake the Huskies.

Kassiani Bisbikos, Megan Taylor, and Jen Ferrari scored for 14-4-1 Eastern Connecticut.

Amanda Valeriani gave Southern Maine a 1-0 lead for 14 seconds before the Warriors attacked.

Marcy Ansley saved four of nine shots for the 7-7-4 Huskies. Allison Sumecki made five saves on 14 shots for ECSU.

Bates 1, Colby 1

At Lewiston on Saturday, Libba Cox gave Colby a 1-0 lead until Jessie Gargiulo tied the game for Bates with five minutes left.

Emily Howieson saved 5 of 10 shots for 9-3-2 Bates. Elizabeth Riley made 11 saves on 21 shots for 7-5-2 Colby College of Waterville.

Bowdoin 3, Bates 0

At Lewiston, on Sunday Katherine Whitley scored two goals and Grace Moore scored the other to give Bowdoin a victory over the Bobcats.

Anna Shapell’s three saves earned a shutout for 9-5-1 Bowdoin. Emily Howieson and Kelly Wakeham combined in Bates’ goal for seven saves.

Field hockey

UM-Farmington 4, Elms 0

At Farmington on Sunday, Mary Sinclair racked up two goals and an assist to power the Beavers to the North Atlantic Conference quaterfinal win.

Amanda Pullen and Kristy Veazie each chipped in with a goal for 11-5 UMF while Becky Christiansen added an assist and Ashleigh Biette had one save on five shots.

Kristen Kutz and Colleen Strunk combined for 12 saves on 26 shots for 5-10 Elms.

Colgate 3, Maine 2

At Morse Field in Orono on Sunday, Ashley Schneider scored off a Kath Shelley assist 2:48 into overtime, lifting the Red Raiders to victory.

Jauren Remkus and Sally Mazzocchi scored the other goals for 11-7 Colgate, while Natali Plensniarski added an assist. Jacque DeMarco made 13 saves on 34 shots.

Shaunessy Saucier scored UMaine’s first goal off a Traci Rainone assist, then set up Rachael Hilgar’s game-tying goal with 10:58 left in regulation. Jamie Morin made six saves on 16 shots.

Northeastern 2, Maine 1

At Orono on Saturday, Whitney Shean scored the game-winner just before halftime to boost the Huskies past the Black Bears.

It was the final regular-season game for 12-5 Maine, which earned the No. 3 seed for the America East playoffs and will face 15-3 Northeastern again in the tournament.

Shean scored earlier in the first half and Diana Nelson stopped three of 10 shots.

Liz Mendell scored later in the first half to tie it for the Bears. Jamie Morin made eight saves on 17 shots.

Colby 1, Bowdoin 0

At Brunswick on Sunday, Jennifer Reilly scored midway through the first half off an assist from Michaelyn Bortolotti, giving the White Mules a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal win over the Polar Bears.

Jamie Enos made 15 saves on 20 shots for 9-5 Colby College of Waterville.

Kate Leonard made three saves and faced only three shots for 10-5 Bowdoin.

USM 3, Bridgewater State 2

At Gorham on Saturday, Erika Kroon scored the eventual game-winner in the second half as the Huskies held on for the win.

Laura Pratt and Rachael Nimon each chipped in with a goal for 4-16 Southern Maine. Sadie Garnache-Poirier had six saves on eight shots.

Chandra Wark scored twice for 1-15 Bridgewater State and Lauren Mazzolla stopped 14 of 17 shots.

WNEC 7, Husson 2

At Springfield, Mass., Allison Jameson scored four goals Saturday as Western New England College knocked the Eagles out of the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinals.

Stephanie Gildart, Emily Popham and Bridget Bates each had a goal for the 13-7 Golden Bears. Jillian Brown and Emillie Donka combined for seven saves on nine shots.

Sarah Skinner and Nicole Palmer each scored for 4-12 Husson of Bangor. Kelly Bocchino and Courtney Ellis had nine saves on 21 shots.

Colby 4, Bates 1

At Lewiston, four Colby players scored Saturday as the White Mules rolled.

Adrienne LeClair, Lauren Smith, Christine Maloney and Jennifer Reilly each had a goal for 8-6 Colby of Waterville. Jamie Enos made seven saves for the Mules.

Erin Chandler had a goal for the 3-11 Bobcats and Sarah Sprague stopped 14 shots.

At Brunswick, Jennifer Reilly scored the winning goal for Colby off a Michaelyn Bortolotti assist, advancing the White Mules to the NESCAC semifinals.
