Sinclair leads UMF to win over Sharks

FARMINGTON – Mary Sinclair scored with an assist from Becky Christiansen to lead the University of Maine-Farmington to a 1-0 victory over Simmons in a North Atlantic Conference field hockey semifinal on Tuesday.

Ashleigh Biette saved the only shot she faced for the 12-5 Beavers. Tiffany Collins saw five shots and didn’t make any saves for the 12-4 Sharks of Boston.

USM 4, Plymouth State 1

At Gorham, junior forward Liz Brunton scored three goals and had an assist to lead the fourth-seeded Huskies over fifth-seeded Plymouth (N.H.) State in a first round playoff match of the Little East Conference Tournament.

Amanda Valeriani scored once and Amanda Loomis had an assist as Southern Maine moved to 8-7-4. Marcy Ansley made three saves on seven shots.

Krista Pettrey scored unassisted and Hayley Quinones saved four of 11 shots for the 6-10-1 Panthers.
