BANGOR – Roger W. Raber, president and CEO of the National Association of Corporate Directors, was the guest speaker Tuesday at Bangor Savings Bank’s 2004 Community Affairs Lecture at the G. Clifton Eames Learning Center. Raber’s talk was titled “Board Leadership: Building Trust in Our Communities.”
National Association of Corporate Directors is a professional organization devoted to providing information, research and education for corporate directors and boards.
“We are committed to exemplifying a high standard of trust and leadership,” said Jim Dowe, president and CEO of Bangor Savings. “Bringing to the forefront the changing face of corporate governance is critical.”
Raber spoke to an audience of business and community leaders as well as University of Maine students and area high school students. “All boards, public, private and nonprofit have a responsibility to their stakeholders, shareholders, customers, employees and especially local communities,” Raber said. “The challenges of today’s board members are to commit themselves to be leaders demonstrating personal integrity, strict accountability, and complete candor in fulfilling their important fiduciary responsibilities.”
