BANGOR – Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance will present the workshop, Point of View in the Short Story, 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the John Bapst High School library in Bangor. Workshop instructor will be writer and teacher, Bruce Pratt of Bangor.

The first part of the workshop will involve an overview and an examination of common problems of the first-person, third-person omniscient and third-person limited techniques and also will address the advantages and disadvantages of the unreliable narrator. Discussion will focus on ways in which the author may better determine the point of view to use in a certain story.

Each workshop participant will be encouraged to bring a work of fiction of as many as 15 single-spaced pages for comment. To have stories returned, a self-addressed envelope with proper postage must be included. Stories submitted for comment will be returned within two weeks, accompanied by a one- or two-page typed response and margin notes.

Preregistration is required. To register, call MWPA at

386-1400.
