Winter parking rules now in effect in Bangor

BANGOR – The winter parking regulations for the city of Bangor will be in effect from Nov. 1 to March 31.

With the buildup of snow on the sides of the roads, the travel lanes become more congested for both regular traffic and, more importantly, emergency vehicles. In addition, it is important that the Bangor Public Works Department is not restricted in their efforts to plow or remove snow from the city’s streets. The city has several parking regulations specifically designed to deal with this.

. Nighttime parking: No vehicle is allowed to park upon any public way, public square or public parking area in the city of Bangor between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m.

. Alternate side parking: Between 6 a.m. and midnight on even-numbered days of the week, parking is allowed only on the side of the street where the houses are even-numbered. On odd-numbered days of the week, parking is allowed only on the side of the street where the houses are odd-numbered. If an area has signs that regulate parking in some way, then the alternate side-parking ordinance does not apply.

. Blocking snow removal: No vehicle shall be parked so as to interfere with or hinder the removal of snow by the city from any public way, public square or parking area. A vehicle that is blocking snow removal is, in most cases, towed at the owner’s expense.
