Bard lifts MMA to win in finale Colby, Bowdoin record victories

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -Senior quarterback Patrick Bard ran for 103 yards and a touchdown and also threw a TD pass to lift Maine Maritime Academy by Framingham State 4-17 in a season-ending New England Football Conference game Saturday.

Bard, one of three 100-yard rushers for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine, scored on a 17-yard run and threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Cody Schmidt in the second quarter as the Mariners (3-6) took a 21-0 halftime lead.

Scott Labbe scored on runs of 20 and 61 yards in the third quarter on his way to 135 yards on 14 carries. Scott Labbe rushed eight times for 115 yards for MMA, which piled up 497 of its 553 total yards on the ground.

Mike Cannistraro had a 7-yard scoring run for the Rams.

At Madison, N.J., Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham scored three unanswered first-half touchdowns on its way to victory over Husson College of Bangor.

Louis Smith netted 94 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns while the 3-6 Devils gained 184 rushing yards on the afternoon. Don Stoltz also passes for 222 yards and two scores for the hosts, who snapped a six-game losing streak.

Husson, 1-7, received a 100-yard interception return for a TD by Adam Scott, who had two interceptions in the game and made seven tackles.

Mike Prentiss carried 24 times for 78 yards and caught four passes for 39 yards, including a 19-yard scoring toss from David Chase, for the Eagles. Chase passed for 116 yards, but was intercepted five times.

Josh Nowlin paced the Husson defense with 10 tackles, including three for a loss.

Colby 17, Tufts 3

At Somerville, Mass., Chris Bashaw (34 carries, 92 yards) ran for two third-quarter touchdowns on runs of 2 and 1 yard to lead the White Mules to a New England Small College Athletic Conference victory over Tufts.

Colby (2-5) had a tremendous defensive outing, allowing Tufts (5-2) past the 50-yard line just twice in the entire game. Wayne Harrington led the charge with 10 tackles, including two sacks, and Josh Berman had seven stops. The Mules racked up nine sacks.

John Goss put Colby ahead with a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Colby QB Justin Smith completed 15 of 32 passes for 164 yards.

Phil Scialdoni kicked a 43-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Jumbos.

At Brunswick, Rob Patchett ran for 84 yards and a touchdown and defensive back David Donahue forced a fumble to preserve the shutout as the Polar Bears shut out the Bobcats in NESCAC action.

Bowdoin (2-5) faces Colby on Saturday in Waterville for the C-B-B championship.

Bowdoin held Bates (1-6) to 50 rushing yards and caused five fumbles, including one knocked loose by Donahue and recovered by John Regan that ended a Bates scoring drive on the 1-yard line.

Rob Patchett gained 83 yards on 28 carries, including a 1-yard scoring run, for Bowdoin. Ahron Cohen ran for a TD and Ricky Leclerc threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jared Prichard.
