Joan Benoit Samuelson, the 1984 Olympic gold medalist in the marathon and a Cape Elizabeth native, has been elected to the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Benoit Samuelson, a graduate of Bowdoin College, was a four-time All-American and a two-time winner of the Boston Marathon.

Benoit Samuelson will be inducted in a ceremony Dec. 3 at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus in Oregon. Other inductees in the Hall of Fame’s 2004 class include Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Michael Johnson.
