Successful fund-raisers are maintained by dedicated volunteers working together to ensure the event continues to draw faithful attendees as well as attract newcomers.

One example of that hard work is the effort of chairwoman Sharon Leavitt and members of the Zonta Club of Bangor, who cordially invite you to their 26th annual Zonta Marketplace 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, and Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Brewer Auditorium on Wilson Street.

Zonta member Alexandra Turallo reports that this year’s marketplace has added “several new and exciting features to its ever-popular event.”

Along with its famous kitchen that offers an array of homemade food to enjoy while at the event, this year you also can take some of it home.

In addition to craft vendors, you will find antiques dealers and more booths than before.

Also helping to keep the regulars returning and newcomers intrigued will be crafts demonstrations or lessons from several of the participating crafters, including stained-glass classes and demonstrations on Stamping Up, quilting and Creative Memories scrapbooking.

Orders for fresh Christmas trees and decorated wreaths will be taken and, this year you can win hourly door prizes, both days, and take a chance on a 50/50 raffle and Zonta’s Thanksgiving dinner raffle.

It’s a lot of hard work, but worth the effort as all proceeds support local Zonta Club projects and scholarships, Turallo wrote, including its Christmas and Thanksgiving service, Good Samaritan Agency, Maine Discovery Museum, Bangor Public Library, Spruce Run, Bangor Homeless Shelter, and Abnaki Girl Scout Council.

Cindy Lozier reports that the Bucksport High School Drama Club will present the musical, “Once On This Island,” based on the novel, “My Love, My Love” by Rosa Guy, which Lozier describes as “a twist on the traditional ‘Little Mermaid’ tale.”

The play, which begins at 7:30 p.m. each evening, is Thursday, Nov. 11; Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13, at Bucksport Middle School auditorium.

On behalf of the Lincoln Veterans Memorial Monument Committee, Chairman Edward DiCenso invites the public to a “Welcome to Lincoln” Public Supper at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lincoln.

Tickets are $9 each and are available at the door.

Proceeds benefit the Lincoln Veterans Memorial Monument.

The event honors the new owners of Lincoln Paper and Tissue Co., and Chief Executive Officer Keith Van Scotter and Chief Financial Officer John Wissman will be presented keys to the community.

Members of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church invite you to the annual Holiday Fair, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, on the corner of North Main and Holyoke streets in Brewer.

In addition to locally-made and Caribbean crafts, you’ll find poinsettias and wreaths, baked goods, a raffle, a children’s activity room, nearly-new toys and special tables with items for men and pets.

Mike Gleason reports the fair “is one of our major fund-raisers.”

Proceeds support the Brewer Ecumenical Food Cupboard, youth programs – including a Summer 2005 Youth Mission trip to the Dominican Republic, its Sister Diocese of Haiti – and “other good works,” Gleason explained.

Breakfast, lunch and takeout, under the supervision of professional chef Mark Spahr, is also available.

The fair takes place rain or shine, is handicapped-accessible, has free parking and is “kid-friendly.”

Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare is hosting an Afternoon of Bingo with doors opening at 11 a.m., and bingo beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Brewer Eagles Club.
