BANGOR – Diverse Maine artists are expected to participate in the Bangor Art Society Auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Union Street Brick Church, 126 Union St., in Bangor. The event is an opportunity for the public to support visual arts locally and acquire artwork created by a Maine artist.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the society’s programs, which include artist lectures and workshops, annual art exhibits, as well as the awarding of scholarships to deserving high school and University of Maine students.
As a long-range plan, the BAS seeks to raise enough funds to acquire its own studio space to benefit people unable to have their own studio. Such space would also be used to sponsor workshops and sketch sessions.
The auction is open to the public. Hors d’oeuvres and music will be provided for people while they browse the art offerings.
All artists are encouraged to donate work for the event. Works that are suitably ready for hanging should be submitted. Only original pieces and limited-edition prints will be accepted; reproductions (giclee, laser prints, etc.) will not. Drop-off times are: 3-5 p.m. Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m. Dec. 2, and 1-3 p.m. Dec. 3. Forms will be available at the church and must be filled out by artists or their representatives at the time of drop-off. For more information, call 884-8670, 943-7471 or 659-0063.
