FORT KENT – Tournament MVP Jeremiah Johnson scored 28 points and freshman Joel Davila added 17 to lead the University of Maine-Machias Clippers to a 76-66 men’s basketball victory over UM-Fort Kent in the championship game of the Bengal Tip-Off Tourney Sunday.

Gary Dussard had 14 points and six rebounds in the championship game for the Clippers.

Bartas Samaitas had 23 points and nine rebounds for the UMFK Bengals. Billy Russo scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

In the consolation game, Kaleb Violette had 26 points and seven rebounds to lead Central Maine Community College of Auburn to a 75-62 win over Mount Allison University of Sackville, New Brunswick.

Patrick Dempsey had 21 points and 10 assists for the Mustangs.

Doyle Anthony led Mount Allison with 26 points and nine rebounds.

On Saturday, UMFK topped Central Maine C.C. 87-76 as four Bengal players scored 10 or more points apiece.

Samaitas led the way with 19 points and Chad Gervais scored 17. Billy Russo scored 16 for the Bengals and Jeremiah Delisle added 11.

Dempsey led CMCC with 20 points.

In the other game, Johnson and Charlie Calligan each scored 13 to lead UM-Machias past Mount Allison 88-63.

Davila scored 13 for the Clippers.

Doyle Anthony led Mount Allison with 22 points.

UMFK’s Davila, Russo and Samaitis, CMCC’s Dempsey, and Mount Allison’s Anthony were named to the all-tourney team.

Maria Seman and Megan Craig paced Mount Allison of Sackville, New Brunswick, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UMFK’s Dana Lemon was named the tourney MVP while teammates Welch and Ashley Hitchborn were all-tourney selections. UMM’s Sarah Ricker, Mount Allison’s Seman and CMCC’s Ashley Swett were also named to the all-tourney team.

At Geneva, N.Y., Ursinus tallied three first-half goals to earn a 3-0 win over UMaine-Farmington in an NCAA regional semifinal Saturday.

Molly Stevens knocked home a goal and made one assist for the 20-1 Bears. Joyce Koubaroulis and Lindsay Cappa scored a goal each, while Kristen Pearson made one assist. Jessica Lamina protected the net, saving the only shot she faced.

Ashleigh Biette made 15 saves on 29 shots for the 15-6 Beavers.

Maine ties one, loses one

At Orono, Colleen Harris netted a goal and an assist in both games this weekend to help Boston College beat Maine 3-2 in the first game and tie the second 2-2.

In Saturday’s game, BC’s Sarah Feldman picked off a pass at the blue line to score a breakaway goal with a little over three minutes remaining to snap the 2-2 tie.
