MANCHESTER, Conn. -Belfast High School senior Levi Miller and Cape Elizabeth sophomore Elise Moody-Roberts each finished second in their respective races at the New England Championship cross-country races at Wickham Park Saturday.

Miller, who won the boys individual state Class B title this fall, finished the 5-kilometer course with a time of 16 minutes, 15 seconds – nine seconds behind race winner Cory Thorne of Portsmouth, N.H.

Other Maine standouts in the boys race were Ayalew Taye and Sintayehu Taye – a junior and freshman, respectively – from Portland finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Miles Bartlett, a junior at Lake Region High School in Naples, was 10th.

Ellsworth sophomore Corey DeWitt finished 92nd with a time of 18 minutes in the field of 240 runners.

In the girls race, Moody-Roberts turned in a time of 19 minutes, 7 seconds and finished just two seconds behind winner Amie Schumacher of Holy Cross, Conn.

Beth Wilcox, a senior from Mount Ararat in Topsham, was seventh with a time of 19:42. Teammate and sister Jessie Wilcox, a senior, was 11th with a time of 19:49.

Madeline Glover from John Bapst in Bangor was 21st. The junior runner finished the course in 20 minutes, 14 seconds. The girls race involved 226 runners.
