BANGOR – The Husson College football team finished its second season with the second win in the program’s modern history by edging William Paterson University 12-9 at the Winkin Complex Saturday afternoon.

Husson’s 2-7 Eagles forced nine turnovers and tailback Mike Prentiss rushed for 230 yards and a touchdown with 45 carries. Husson’s total net rushing yardage was 258 behind the offensive line of Hampden’s Jeff Cross, Bath’s A.J. Buzzell, Louis Avent, Dave Brown and Boothbay Harbor’s Mike Closson.

Chad Bennett, a safety from Pittsfield, made three of Husson’s record six interceptions in the game and Josh Nowlin led the Eagles with 81/2 tackles.

Husson’s first score came courtesy of a 7-yard pass from David Chase to Kyle Poissonier in the second half. Prentiss scored the second on a 76-yard run. The 2-8 Pioneers converted a fumble recovery late into a touchdown via a 12-yard touchdown pass from Cristobal Rodriguez to Kareem Moon with 1:17 to play, but Husson recovered the Pioneers’ onside kick and ran out the clock.
