Bangor police arrest man after family dispute

The first time Bangor police spoke to Arthur W. Bartlett about a family dispute at his Dillingham Street home late Monday night, he reportedly agreed to separate from the family for the night.

The second time, just minutes after the first, he left in police custody.

Bartlett initially called police shortly before 11 p.m. Monday to have his wife removed. The family agreed to separate and the police left, reported Bangor police Officer James Dearing.

Minutes later, his wife called to report another disturbance. Returning, Dearing and Officer Wade Betters reported being approached by a bare-chested Bartlett, 35, who said, “I’m going to jail.” His wife and an 18-year-old son were walking behind Bartlett when the officers said he lunged at them with clenched fists.

They took Bartlett into custody, charging him with disorderly conduct and criminal threatening. The officers learned that earlier in the evening Bartlett tried to coax his son to hit him and when the young man refused, Bartlett apparently got angry and kicked the teenager in the mouth, prompting police to charge him with assault.

Bangor police charged a Hudson man with alcohol and drug charges early Tuesday morning after stopping him for erratic driving.

Bangor police Officer Wade Betters reported following a pickup truck for three miles driven by Eugene Niles, 35, of Hudson. Betters noted that during the time he was following the truck, the vehicle was weaving on the road including straddling the lane divider on Interstate 395 for 300 feet.

Based on Niles’ performance on field sobriety tests and on other observations, Betters arrested Niles on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under influence of intoxicants.

Niles had a provisional license that prohibited him from consuming any alcohol and driving, so he was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Officer Eric Tourtelotte searched the pickup truck and reported finding a mixture of empty and full beer bottles, a small plastic bag containing marijuana and a small plastic bag containing two heart medication pills and a third identified as a depressant, according to the police reports.

Niles was charged with possession of Schedule Z drugs and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
