Collision on Route 1 in Northport injures 2

NORTHPORT – Both drivers were injured in a collision on U.S. Route 1 Saturday after one driver lost control of her vehicle in snow.

The collision was reported about 7:30 a.m. near the Outdoor Sportsman store.

According to a Waldo County Sheriff’s Department report, Marcia Newbert, 33, of Searsport was traveling south in a 1998 Chevrolet SUV when the vehicle began sliding sideways and into the northbound lane.

Traveling north was Robert LaFontaine, 53, of Northport in a 1998 Jeep.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, but both suffered injuries and were taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast.
