AUGUSTA – Three Maine soldiers, including a man from Indian Island, suffered minor injuries Wednesday when they came under mortar fire in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

The three members of the 133rd Engineer Battalion were injured while working on a project, said Maj. Peter Rogers, director of public affairs for the Maine National Guard.

The injuries were minor wounds, Rogers said and the three returned to duty the same day.

“They didn’t even want to go to the aid station, but per protocol they did,” Rogers said Thursday.

Michael Francis of Indian Island was one of the three injured.

Information about the other two men was not available, but Rogers said all three are fine.
