If you take a tour of downtown Rockland, it’s hard not to stop in at the Time-Out Pub. Overlooking Rockland Harbor, the two-story pub is a slightly salty but thoroughly friendly spot for beers, some traditional pub grub and a game of pool. It’s also a great place to occasionally catch a live band playing on the second story.
Through November, Monday nights belong to the blues at Time-Out. The shows, which feature an impressive lineup of national recording artists, typically draw equally impressive crowds – not all that surprising, really, given the reputation and popularity of Rockland’s annual Blues Festival.
Monday night, Nov. 22, harmonica legend Carey Bell takes the stage. On Nov. 29, New England blues-rock guitarist Albert Cummings will be featured.
The blues nights wrap up Dec. 6 with an early New Year’s Eve celebration featuring Chicago singer and saxman Eddie Shaw.
Shows start at 7 p.m. Ticket prices vary and many shows sell out, so call ahead (593-9336).
Also venturing up the coast is acoustic guitar legend Leo Kottke, who will be at The Camden Opera House at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21. The masterful six- and 12-string acoustic guitar player is touring in support his latest album, “Try and Stop Me.” For more information, visit leokottke.com. For tickets, call 236-8448.
Finally, be sure to mark your calendars for the Divine Maggees’ return to the Lincoln Street Center on Saturday, Nov. 27. Aside from creating some stellar harmony-driven folk rock, the duo – Cregan Montague (vocals, acoustic and electric fiddle) and Danielle Tibedo (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar) – hold a special place in our hearts as being the first artist to be featured in the founding “Rockin’ Out” column nearly one year ago. For ticket information, contact the center at 594-6490, or log onto www.lincolnstreetcenter.org.
