Maine teams ousted Quarterfinals begin today at 9:30 a.m.

BREWER – Fourth-seeded Beazley’s Bowling Center of Nova Scotia from the Holiday Inn Division ended No. 3 Varney GMC Division Maine Heat’s championship hopes by eliminating them in the first playoff round 1824-1753 Friday in the Candlepin Bowling World Team Championship at the Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes.

Beazley’s was led by John Dickie and Danny Harvey, who had three-sting totals of 398 and 381, respectively.

Nate Nealey topped Maine Heat with a 418 total and Shawn Morrisson had 341.

The other Maine team in the tournament was also eliminated in the first round. W.A.F.U. of Nova Scotia, the third seed in the Holiday Inn Division, beat No. 4 Varney division seed Vacationland Bowling Center 1844-1748.

W.A.F.U. was headed by Gerry Dunn with a 447 pinfall and a 149 average, which led all players. Chris McGrady bowled a 368 total.

Vacationland was led by Bill Duquette with 377 and Mike O’Brien posted 365.

Second-ranked Pelham/ Benny Boys Pizza in the Holiday Inn Division defeated fifth-ranked Handi’s Rebels of the Varney GMC Division 1746-1717.

Pelham/Benny Boys Pizza’s leader Matt MacPhee posted a 378 three-string total and John Marriott had a 359.

Mike Hall led Handi’s Rebels with a 370 total and Brian Bernatchez had 360.

Park Place Lanes II, which sits second in the Varney GMC Division, beat the fifth-place New Hampshire All Stars of the Holiday Inn Division 1890-1829.

Gary Carrington totaled 379 for Park Place Lanes II and Mike Morgan wasn’t far behind with 372.

Steve Plante of the N.H. All Stars had a 389 and Mike Poulin added a 387 total.

Top-seeded Maria’s Subs of Holiday Inn and MacLaughlin Truck and Trailer of Varney GMC each received a first-round bye.

Park Place Lanes II will bowl against Beazley’s in the quarterfinals while Pelham/Benny Boy’s Pizza will face W.A.F.U.

MacLaughlin Truck & Trailer and Maria’s Sub will match up against the quarterfinal winners.

Chris Sargent leads the Holiday Inn Division individual chase with a 129.19 average. Gary Santora has a 126.75 average and Rich Bognanno has a 126.42. John Lang averages 125.93 and Dan Harris checks in at 125.42.

In the Varney GMC Division, Jeff McClain leads with a 131.67 average and Chris Hollett is close behind with a 130.23. Mike Morgan averages 127.78, Tony LeBlanc has a 126.48 average, and Brian Bernatchez has a 126.33.
