An energetic and charming 10-year-old, Robbie likes to show off with poses and facial expressions. Once he warms up to a situation, he is very engaging and can relate to adults easily. Robbie is intelligent, as seen through his strong verbal skills and ability to read at a higher grade level.
Robbie is usually full of questions and loves to take walks and ride his bicycle. He can be sincere, empathetic and show concern for others.
Robbie came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in May 1998. He has participated in therapy and has made remarkable progress. He will need to continue therapy and attachment work with his adoptive family.
Although Robbie initially has a difficult time trusting his caregivers, he has shown an ability to attach to people in his life. Robbie has occasional visits with his birth siblings and would like to maintain these relationships. He also has maintained contact with a former foster parent, another special person in his life with whom a relationship should be continued.
Robbie has exhibited oppositional and defiant behaviors but has a remarkable way of identifying his feelings and finding solutions. He sometimes struggles with completing his homework and interacting with peers at school. He also has difficulty with sensory and processing issues. Although he loves to play sports, contact sports are difficult for Robbie because of these sensory issues.
Robbie needs an adoptive family that can provide him with a consistent routine and established limits for his behavior. Robbie questions where he belongs and needs parents who are committed to telling and showing him that he is part of their family.
A single- or two-parent family will be considered. Robbie would be most successful in a family with other children and pets.
