BOSTON – Noted Maine philanthropist Harold Alfond was honored Friday as one of the first recipients of the Bob Cousy Humanitarian Award during ceremonies at the FleetCenter.

Alfond and Ken Walsh of the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville were recognized during halftime of the Boston Celtics’ game against the San Antonio Spurs. Both were cited for their work on youth, using basketball as a principal medium to reach their objectives.

Alfond has given millions of dollars to causes such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Two/Ten Foundation, the University of Maine, Colby College, the University of New England, Boston College, Saint Joseph’s College and the Alfond Youth Center.
