HANCOCK – A structure fire Sunday afternoon on East Side Road caused several thousand dollars of damage but resulted in no injuries, according to a local fire official.
Hancock Fire Chief Chris Holmes said Monday the fire burned out the floor of a dining room in the house. Holmes said it was an electrical fire. He declined to say who owns or lives in the house, but said it is roughly a tenth of a mile from Route 1.
No one was home at the time of the fire, which was reported by neighbors at about 2:20 p.m. when they saw smoke coming out of the house, Holmes said. He guessed that damage to the home could range between $10,000 and $15,000.
The house is insured, the fire chief said. Fire damage was limited to the dining room floor and the basement ceiling. He said there was smoke damage throughout the house.
Twelve firefighters from Hancock and roughly 12 more from Sorrento and Sullivan responded to the fire and had it under control in about 20 minutes, he said.
