DANFORTH – The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police continue to investigate a hunting-related fatality involving a 15-year-old boy that took place just before 8 a.m. Monday in Danforth.

Warden Jeremy Kemp said the departments are not releasing names or details. He said there were three men in the hunting party.

“We will learn more tomorrow after the medical examiner does his work,” Kemp said Monday afternoon.

Several people in Danforth who were listening to the scanner this morning said they heard the communication to Houlton Regional Hospital, where the young man was taken for examination. Others reached by telephone Monday afternoon claimed that the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted. Wardens would not confirm this report.

The accident took place on the Schillinger Road.

It is the state’s second hunting-related fatality this season. On Nov. 8, 21-year-old James Griffin Jr., 21, of Levant was shot accidentally by a companion who was hunting illegally after hours in Levant. Griffin was shot at 5 p.m., about 15 minutes after legal hunting ended.
