ELLSWORTH – A local woman remained hospitalized Wednesday after her car rolled over the night before on Route 180 and she was then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Bangor, according to officials.

Angela Shaw, 35, was listed Wednesday evening in serious condition at Eastern Maine Medical in Bangor, according to a nursing supervisor.

Shaw was driving a 2002 Volkswagen around 10:15 p.m. when it drifted off the left side of the road, hit an embankment and then rolled onto its roof, Ellsworth police Officer Glenn Moshier indicated in his police report. Shaw was found conscious lying outside the vehicle, he wrote.

According to Moshier, medical personnel indicated Shaw suffered multiple pelvic fractures, a broken right leg and a broken right arm in the accident.

Ellsworth police Sgt. Bart Tokas said Wednesday that it is unknown if Shaw was wearing a seat belt when her car went off the road.

“She crawled out of the vehicle,” Tokas said.

Shaw was the only person in the car when it crashed, he said. Charges are not expected to be filed in connection with the accident.

Shaw was taken by County Ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth before she was flown to Bangor, according to police.

The Volkswagen Jetta, valued at $19,000, was demolished in the accident.
